Don’t marry a man for his looks. Time and circumstance will change your appearance, and 9/10 odds they’ll change his too.

Don’t marry him for his hygiene. Chances are that no matter how good you think he smells now, you’re probably still going to involuntarily gag whenever he gets within fifteen feet of you during those beloved days of morning sickness and pregnancy nausea. And once the baby arrives? Well, chances are that neither of you will be winning any cleanliness awards for a while.

Don’t marry him for his strength. He might seem like a tough guy now, but even the strongest of men will be brought to his knees by a dirty diaper.

Don’t marry him for his money. You can stretch a budget; you can’t stretch love.

Don’t marry him for how good he is in bed. Marry him for how good he is at getting OUT of bed. . . at midnight. . . with a screaming baby. . . without being asked.

Ladies, listen closely.

Marry the guy who will wake up early with the kids and watch cartoons while you catch a few more winks of sleep.

Marry the guy who will walk into a filthy house after a long day at work and not mention the mess, but instead point out the one thing you did accomplish.

Marry the guy who will pinch your butt as you walk past him in the kitchen and tell you how good you look even when you’re on day two of the same stained sweatpants.

Marry the guy who will humor you by letting you pick a chick flick for movie night. Keep him even closer if he lets you hog the popcorn after you insisted you didn’t want any.

Marry the guy who shares inside jokes with you and makes you smile even when the world feels heavy.

Marry the guy who doesn't hesitate to fall asleep curled up in way-too-small bed to appease a whiny toddler so that you can enjoy the quiet hours in between their bedtime and yours.

All the seemingly tiny things that you won’t find on any list or in any movie are the things that will come to mean the most to you as you weather the years.

Marry this guy, and you’ll never look back.
